Red Hen Restaurant Website Gets Hacked
The Red Hen restaurant has been in the news recently for refusing to serve President Trump’s Press Secretary, Sarah Sanders. I googled them and discovered that they are the victim of what has become known as the Pharma Hack:
If you visit the website in your browser it looks fine. If you search for them on Google their search results listing looks like the above screenshot. The hacker inserts code into the website’s index page. When this code detects that the website visitor is Google then it replaces the normal website content with a page containing the keywords ‘viagra’, ‘ED’, and others, along with links to online pharma sites. In this case, those sites are:
http://vgraustralia.com/viagra-online.html
http://getnaltrexone.com/
https://onlineantibiotics.net/
https://onlineantibiotics.net/buy-macrobid.html
People often ask me why anyone would want to attack their website. This is one reason. It is far cheaper and faster to pay a hacker to create links to your website than it is to build them organically. And the pharma hack works well because website owners seldom look at their listing in the Google search results.
We have have significant experience cleaning up the pharma hack, as well as preventing it.
