Why Would They Attack My Website?
“Why would hackers go after my website, it’s just a brochure site?” I’m asked this often.
Hackers who set up phishing attacks are looking for websites that are not blacklisted.
Here is a phishing attack email I received this morning:
It looks pretty official, doesn’t it? One’s first reaction is to click on the Get Billing Summary link. That link however points to:
http://paintestimatingcourse.com/?4a82=GJMdlaMuBRTODEUUBGOCQbi
The website paintestimatingcourse.com has been hacked and contains code that is designed to gather unsuspecting people’s personal information. Within a few days however, the paintestimatingcourse.com website will get blacklisted and anyone clicking on the Get Billing Summary link will get the screen shown at the top of this post. At which point the hackers will be switch to using the next website in their list.
Creators of phishing attacks therefore are always looking for clean websites that they can infect.
How do we prevent this from happening to your website?
First, we route all your website’s traffic through a sophisticated best-in-class cloud-based firewall. This firewall inspects every bit of traffic inbound to your website and recognizes infection attempts. When it sees an infection attempt, it blocks that traffic from ever reaching your website. The second thing we do is to scan your website every day, looking for infections.
